Salone del Mobile Milano_2021

SAJO is proud to announce the presence of its European team at the Salone and looks forward to the enriching experience of viewing its exhibits and taking part in its myriad of educational activities. The event promises to be inspirational for connoisseurs and the visiting public, alike.

The Salone Internazionale del Mobile, taking place from the 5th to the 10th of September 2021 in Milan’s Rho Fairgrounds, is the quintessential event in the world of furniture design and innovation. Founded in 1961, the Salone has served to display and promote the best of Italian design and over the years has become renowned for showcasing unique and state-of-the-art creations from the world’s leading designers.

The 2021 «supersalone» is a special event, it being the first large exhibition to open its doors since the pandemic erupted. Its novel format, under the auspices of curator and architect, Stefano Boeri, emphasizes a commitment to safety and sustainability and offers a welcoming and protective environment in which exhibitors and visitors can come together to meet, exchange, and develop artistic partnerships and fertile business relationships. In the words of Stefano Boeri, “the «supersalone» is a cheerful response from a SuperItaly after the long night of the pandemic.”

The Milanese exhibition is set out across four pavilions and features every sector of furniture design. It comprises more than 423 products and encompasses innovative brands from more than 20 categories including award-winning design chairs, the most iconic of design artefacts. As well, the exhibition features 50 independent designers, 170 projects from 48 international design schools drawn from 22 different countries, 20 of the most influential figures in furniture design, alongside art and architectural stars, scholars, filmmakers, and Italian chefs.

In addition to the exhibits, the «supersalone» programme is replete with lectures, round-table discussions, biopics and docufilms which explore the shifting cultural and societal paradigms in conceptual design, the latest developments in material applications, and the new inventions on the horizon. Moreover, the «supersalone’s» digital platform provides the opportunity for live streaming and a mix of virtual and in-person presence.

In view of the incontrovertible bond between design and Milan, the Triennale di Milano, the permanent museum of Italian design housed in the Palazzo dell’Arte, will mark the occasion of the «supersalone» with its own exhibit, called Il Salone/la Città, andcurated by Mario Piazza. Drawing on the archives of both institutions, this exceptional exhibit showcases the cultural events held by the Salone del Mobile.Milano, over its 60-year history. In so doing, it depicts the relationship between the Salone and the City and unveils the story of the iconic and prestigious Made in Italy design brand.

The “supersalone” is « a special project through which the Salone del Mobile.Milano intends to serve as ………………… a symbol of a new Renaissance. »
